INDEX.HTML Requirement Dropped at JED
As we all know, having index.html in all folders is one of the requirements while submitting our extensions to Joomla Extension Directory. But we can take a breathe now because this requirement has been dropped now.
Having index.html in all folders prevents to users from seeing all the files and folders you have. But it is actually an obsolete solution and also not much effective from security point of view and it also slows down the approval process of extensions at JED because most of the developers forgot to put that. So finally, JED has dropped this requirement so you can now submit extensions without having index.html file in all the folders.
But I'll recommend to still have a kind of security so users can't access the folders and files. Let me know show you the way by which you can disable directory listings:
- Ask your host to disable directory listing OR you can do it from cPanel on your own as well.
- Implement rule for disabling the directory listing in .htaccess OR web.config file.
This rule has been effective from 1st April, 2013!
