Joomla iFrame Malware Hack Removal
Another kind of hack that is most common nowadays is JavaScript iFrame injection OR simply iframe hack. This is actually not a very much serious attack in terms of damage but I will suggest the pre-cautions should be taken seriously :)
The nature of this hack attempt is not only targeted to open sources like Joomla/Wordpress/Drupal but it can attack on static websites as well. Removing iFrame hack can cost a lots of time and money. In fact, in past days I've got lots of my client sites(Joomla and Non-Joomla) infected from this so I think, I should write Tutorial to show how you can remove and repair this infection.
This attack mostly target index.php, index.html and JS files. This is the pattern that we recognized during cleaning up the sites.
Steps to remove iFrame hack:
- First step is to check whether your computers and laptops are clean OR not. So check it by Malware and Antivirus scans and make sure, nothing is infected.
- Now, change all the cPanel, FTP, Joomla Admin passwords.
- Connect to FTP and Download all the infected files. First you can try with just index.php, index.html and JS files as this iFrame hack mostly target these files only but still recommend to check all the files and scan them using Anti-Malware software.
- Once download is done, open infected file. Let's say index.php and search for <iframe>. Delete that whole <iframe>xxxxxx</iframe> code and save the file.
- Repeat this process for each and every file and you can mass delete it using Dreamweaver's find and replace function OR alternatively you can restore all these files from Fresh Joomla Installation if no customizations are done in the files.
- Upload cleaned files to FTP server.
- And You're done!
Sometimes, this hacks index2.php and index3.php files as well that is from administrator directory so you should check and clean them as well if they are infected.
